The Busselton Region

Busselton Beach Resort. View from the street. Bordering on the calm pristine waters of Geographe Bay, Busselton is well known for its easy going charm, rich heritage and of course the spectacular sunsets over the cape. Its beaches are popular with swimmers, divers, anglers and boating enthusiasts.

A French sailor named Vasse discovered the area in 1801 but the first settlers, the Bussell family, obtained grants in 1832 and from 1834 the town took on the name of the Bussell family.

With the development of the timber industry, a two kilometre wooden jetty was built and Busselton soon established itself as a loading shipping port.

In the late 1900's the wine industry was established and since then it has become internationally renowned for producing award winning premium table wine.

Busselton is a popular tourist destination and tourism has become one of the main industries of the area. It is also one of the fastest growing shires in Australia.
